I believe people can change. I love to harness the human capital of an organization and help people reach their full potential. I'm passionate about learning and strive to make an impact at an organization. I'm also a nerd. I grew up with a personal computer and an internet connection which sparked my interest in learning and broadened my understanding of the world.

My first job out of high school was as a tech instructor for a summer camp company in California. It was my job to manage a classroom of hyper kids and teach them how to design, code, and test their own computer video games. What was I thinking? That was pure madness. At the time it was just a paid gig. I didn't want to pursue teaching as a career. I wanted to make music on my computer and go hiking.

But after a fortuitous meeting with a founder of a small private K-12 prep school, I was offered a full-time teaching job and I took it. Initially I felt like an imposter, but I stuck with it and in time I learned how to teach and train students. In hindsight I was more of a trainer than teacher. In the facilitation of my computer classes I focussed more on the application and mastery of skills and knowledge rather than just knowledge as a sole learning outcome. But in a work context, this is actually what you want! Practice activities that lead to a change in behavior and skills that lead to improved job performance.

Since then I have developed my skills as a trainer by helping large organizations coordinate and manage their training, safety, compliance, HR and administrative programs. I am now seeking more meaningful jobs that are aligned with my desire to serve the community and develop my skills in fiscal budgeting and data reporting for government and non-profit organizations. Going forward I want to draw from my own challenges and life experiences so I can apply what I've learned at an organization where I can give back to the community, using whatever skills I have to support local mental health programs. Lastly I'd like to share what I have learned with others so they can avoid difficult stumbling blocks and barriers I faced so they too can be successful and live more purpose driven lives.
